Friendships are important and knowing how to build ones that support and inspire you to become the best version of yourself is important. We will learn what healthy friendships look like and how to surround yourself with a tribe of friends along with how to be a great friend to those in your tribe.
Tami Allen will be presenting this class. Tami has worked for Families Together Inc., the Kansas Parent Training and Information Center, serving families who have children with special needs, for over 30 years. She recently moved to Wichita and took over as Co-Executive Director. Tami and her husband, Terry, have been married for 6 years and have a combined family of 8 young adult children and 8 grandchildren.
Tami’s inspiration comes from her adult son, Skylar, who has special needs and is an avid advocate and travels with Tami speaking on his unique ability to overcome challenges in his life.
Tami is a former Mrs. Kansas International, Ms. Midwest Essence and Ms. Kansas All World Beauties. Her platform for educating mothers of children with special needs to explore the uniqueness within themselves has been her passion and commitment to the families and youth she encounters.
11:30 AM - 12:15 PM - Yoga for Wellbeing
Leadership is not only about leading others but also taking care of yourself. You can’t lead effectively if you're not healthy and feeling your best. Carrie will guide us through a modified chair yoga routine and follow up with some advice on health and wellness.
Carrie Mandigo loves yoga, and it has become a passion of hers to share it with others, regardless of body size or ability. Yoga is truly for everyone and all bodies, no matter the circumstance. Her goal for those who practice with her is that they feel happy, peaceful, energized, and accomplished, whether lying on the mat the whole time or practicing each pose. Her time in the studio has become what she likes to call “life support”. As she moves deeper into her yoga practice, she finds that she is more resilient, more flexible (both mentally and physically), and more patient with her family, her family-owned business, and herself. Carrie has a B.S. in Exercise Science and a B.S.N.
She worked as an R.N. for many years, specializing in all forms of cardiac care with her favorite being Cardiac Rehab. She simultaneously worked as a certified fitness instructor before making the life-altering decision to stay at home with her two boys. With the boys doing well and almost on their own, she completed her 200-hour R.Y.T. (registered yoga teacher) training and is absolutely thrilled to be part of the Lava Yoga team and to teach yoga for a living.

During this session, attendees will learn how to apply for college, the differences between college and high school, how to request and get accommodations, and how to make the best post-secondary decisions that fit your goals and your needs.

Hilary is a visionary thinker who acknowledges but doesn't accept barriers. She believes that, no matter what, all people with disabilities should have the right to be comfortable in their own skin and have their voices heard!
